SFR continues to make meaningful strides in improving the living conditions and economic resilience of vulnerable families across Rwanda. Through integrated shelter support and livestock-based livelihood programs, the organization is helping communities in Rusizi, Nyamasheke, and Huye Districts move from vulnerability towards stability and self-reliance.
Safe and Dignified Housing for Vulnerable Families
Access to safe housing remains one of the most critical foundations of human dignity and well-being. In response to this need, SFR has constructed and fully furnished durable homes for hundreds of vulnerable households across the districts of Rusizi, Nyamasheke, and Huye.
These shelters are designed to provide more than just basic protection from weather conditions. Each home is equipped to ensure families can live in dignity, stability, and comfort. For many beneficiaries, this marks a major shift from unsafe or inadequate housing to secure and dignified living conditions.
Beyond individual households, these shelter interventions contribute to stronger, more resilient communities where families can focus on education, livelihoods, and long-term development rather than daily survival challenges.
Livestock Support to Strengthen Household Economies
Alongside shelter support, SFR is implementing complementary livelihood programs that help families build sustainable sources of income.
In Nyamasheke, Rusizi and Huye Districts, in all sectors we occupy, vulnerable families we support have received small livestock support, including milk cows, goats and pigs, as part of a wider economic empowerment initiative. This intervention is designed to create multiple layers of impact:
- Generating income through livestock rearing and sales
- Improving agricultural productivity through organic manure
- Strengthening household nutrition and food security
- Supporting long-term self-reliance for rural families
By combining shelter and livelihood support, SFR ensures that families are not only housed safely but are also economically empowered to sustain their well-being.
Community-Led Development and Local Leadership Support
These initiatives have been warmly received by local leaders, including district authorities such as Mayors, sector leaders who emphasize the importance of coordinated efforts in improving the well-being of vulnerable populations and advancing inclusive community development.
Local leadership continues to play a key role in identifying vulnerable households and supporting the successful implementation of these programs across the districts.
A Holistic Approach to Poverty Reduction
SFR’s work across Rusizi, Nyamasheke, and Huye reflects a holistic development approach—combining decent shelter, income-generating activities, and community engagement. This integrated model ensures that support goes beyond short-term relief and focuses on long-term transformation.
In addressing both housing and livelihoods, the organization is helping families rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and hope.
Building Sustainable Futures for Rural Communities
Through continued investment in housing and livelihood programs, Strive Foundation Rwanda remains committed to strengthening resilience among vulnerable households. These interventions are not only improving living standards today but are also laying the foundation for sustainable, community-driven development in the future.
