strive Foundation Rwanda and Human Help Network have always struggled to fight malnutrition and boost agriculture to provide a source of incomes to the poor child headed Households and improve their economic status. The program is implemented in Nyamasheke and Rusizi Districts, as a part of the Rwandan vision to move from a low-income country to a middle-income country. This package works in the way that one most vulnerable household receives a cow and, as a refund to the organization, they also give their first calf to their fellow vulnerable CHH.

SFR and HHN discovered that Livestock farming is a strong pillar of the global food system and a contributor to poverty reduction, food security and agricultural development and indeed this has also been the testimony within our beneficiaries who are supported with livestock (Cows).

Strive Foundation Rwanda and Human Help Network’s Cow approach/Livestock farming has really changed the economic status of the beneficiaries who seemed to be desperate in the first run. Besides the increase of milk and manure production within these vulnerable households, their health is also improved through better milk consumption and also agriculture diversification and this has impacted their lives positively to better living standards today.

In the first run, SFR and HHN experienced a challenge of beneficiaries who had no enough knowledge and skills to cater for the Cows, but more efforts was engaged on building their capacity though the organization full-time field agronomists who have trained and empowered them with adequate skills of enhanced livestock farming.
